MoonSong's Journey |
This CD was originally conceived by a desire of our community to support Kimber Godsey Songweaver in presenting her voice to the world while simultaneously creating a community-owned CD that contained some of the music we love and use each year when we gather. As the shifting and weaving of mystery worked her magic on that intention and as a community we all walked with
Kimber on the path of developing courage around our voices being heard publicly, the CD production became a collaboration between Kimber and Suzanne. Kendra joined in to support this vision with them, and September 2003 found a small group of women in the Northern Lights music studio on Vashon Island in Washington State. We were enlivened and exhausted from the intensity of a week-long retreat we had all participated in, and, as soon as we called the directions into the studio, it became apparent that our time together would be an extension of that event. With little rehearsal and Nan holding space for us as our “doorkeeper,” we laid down the tracks you will hear on this CD. The music worked us all deeply, each in our individual ways. We, as a group, decided that the “medicine,” the depth of this particular sound and moment in time is most clearly reflected in the raw, unedited mix we offer you as a spontaneous field recording. It holds our beauty, our vulnerability, and the perfection of our imperfection. One of the original intentions was for Grandma Billie to join us at the studio and record with us. This was not possible. It was important for us to honor and acknowledge “Grandma” as the respected and loved Grandmother of our community and to have her voice opening this CD in the same way she has opened our circles over many years. Suzanne took recording equipment to Billie’s home in March 2006 for a spontaneous field recording. Thank you, Grandma, for blessing us .We could not have done this project without the support of our community in spirit as well as abundance.
